Laminating

Post by camhard »

I noticed that most people seem to be using Titebond for laminating their cores. What sort of difference would epoxy make (other than cost)? I'm specifically interested in flex characteristics as well as potential weight differences (these would probably be negligible, but if epoxy will stiffen the ski, perhaps thinner cores could be used).

Thanks.

the glue for the wood core doesent make so much diference in weigth, you spend about 30gr of glue to glue the cores, by the way epoxy takes 14 days to cure then you could work in the wood safely...

wood glue is the best option

You could use epoxy, but it would be a lot more hassle than any strength gains. Usually wood glue bonds stronger than the wood anyway. Plus, wood glue is a lot easier and more pleasant to work with than epoxy and, you don't need to really protect yourself when using it because it washes off your hands, and is non-toxic. This final reason is about 95% of why I have always used wood glue.
