Alignment inserts and skis relaxing

Post by skibum »

Just having some trouble locating alignment inserts (to align the core with the base). I know everyone seems to use something different but was just hoping to find where I could purchase them.
Also I was wondering how much people are finding their skis relax after pressing (10%, 25% - none). I will be heating from top and bottom in a pneumatic press. The plan is to heat under pressure for one hour and allow to cool for an additional 30 min under pressure. I'll be using QCM 0043 and 0032. I was just hoping to make my mold properly the first time so and info would be great!

thanks so much for the help!

for alignment pins I now use 5/16" round tapered wood plugs from the hardware store. I drill the holes through the core, and then align the core to the base and mark where the plugs need to go. I then superglue them to the base.

049 & 032 heat top and bottom 70psi and zero relaxation. I cook for 45 minutes and then allow to cool at room temp

cooling under pressure created issues for me as the board cooled down unevenly. I wouldn't do it again. I don't think there is any benefit to doing it and it can cause problems.
