Big Twins
Finally pressing the second round. First twin is in the press right now.
Best board I have built yet, and it's not mine! Damn it!
4000 sintered durasurf
edges with 1" vds
9 oz double bias reinforcement for tip and tail.
20 oz triax
(2) 1" rubber strips
(2) 1" wide 5 oz biax kevlar
5" wide rubber strip
11mm rubber strips for sidewalls
core (inserts hammered in wet, through 5 oz biax carbon fiber, tip and tail pieces interlocked and attached with 1" strips of unidirectional carbon fiber, superglued on the ends (2 on top, 2 on bottom)
11mm rubber strips for sidewalls
5" wide rubber strip
20 oz triax
sublminated pbt topsheet (sbm did a great job on these).
Time to pull it and see how she came out. The anticipation of this point is out of control. The whole range of emotions is felt during layup. I love it.

Doughboy, you need to give me a call about topsheet. We are going to be buying 1000m of pbt soon and we have found a great sublimator to do our work. He is looking for more customers right now too. They will do small runs and the quality is A+.sublminated pbt topsheet (sbm did a great job on these).
phone # is on the website, you know where to find it.

Out of the press, and it's almost perfect. 11mm vds shifted a little which makes sense considering I have resin all over the place. I obviously used too much. Other than that a little too much camber, but I am letting it cool decambered so hopefully that will help. And, I cut my knuckle on the cassette aluminum. ouch.

2nd of 3 is done and in the press. So far so good. Graphic is a little twisted, which is annoying as all dded.
first board seemed to calm down a little bit camber wise. I have read so many times that you need to compensate for relaxation, and I adjusted my press originally assuming that would be the case. I am not getting much if any. Board that I rode all last year still has the same camber as when I took it out of the press. I guess this is a good thing, but I would sure like to know why. My guess is it's the kevlar or the carbon fiber or both.

reasons?doughboyshredder wrote:something like 1/2 wrap really. I just take the edges a few inches past the contact points.chrismp wrote:nice one! love the blunt tip/tail!
are you doing 3/4 edge wraps?
I highly prefer not having edge wrapped around the tip/tail.
any experiences on how well this method holds up to park abuse?

main reason is I treat my gear like shit. With a full wrap edge the tips get all dded up with bent edges, etc... With no edge there it's easier to clean up and put some epoxy on any damages. Also, it's lighter, albeit, not much.
I would think it's probably the same for park damage. It's kind of a question of do you want a dinged up bent steel edge, or do you want to occasionally put a bit of epoxy on a dinged up area?
