Snocad x and Vista?

Post by SRP »

I recently got a new computer with vista and can't seem to get snocad x to save open, save, import, and export files. I have been using snocad for years on an xp computer without any problems. Newest version of snocad installed. Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions? I posted over at graf snowboards as well. This would really be a bummer if I can't get this to work. Thanks for any help and Happy Holidays, Scott

I had to install a new version of Java to get it to work - It runs on a Java platform not the windows operating system itself.

Mine is from sun microsystems and works fine.

It doesn't ever remember where it saves things. I have to go through directory trees every time to open a file and remember to be carefull when saving, not just blindly hit save.

Thanks for the responses. I can't seem to save or export anything. Maybe I will try to reload it. I have the newest Java. I can open snocad and design fine, but just can't save or export (dxf or pdf)..

nrgboards,
I was getting the same thing as you. I couldn't get java to work on the newer internet explorer. It seems as though explorer may not be recognizing it anymore. I downloaded firefox and was able to load snocad without an issue (besides the above issue) and load it with Java. Good luck.

As an update I rebooted my old computer from scratch (it was crashing all the time) and was able to reload snocad (again through firefox) . I can also save and export fine on this computer. Same version of snocad and java. Windows XP not vista being the biggest difference.

I'm no java developer but even though you've downloaded the latest version you might check to make sure your running it and not a previous version.

Found these steps online somewhere:
Open Control panel, switch to classic view, double click the java icon, in the General tab click the About button. Version info should be displayed. Does it report what it should?

If it doesn't see this for instructions on how to specify/change versions
http://java.com/en/download/help/path.xml

You might also remove the old versions as I think java updates leave old versions behind.

Let me know if you still have problems, I have a vista box at work and could try it there...

Hope that helps. Chris

I'm on Windows 7 and don't seem to have any issue with it. I can save/export/open everything just fine.

Do you have the snowcad-x files saved locally or do you start it through firefox each time?
