Our current project is a steel press made out of 2" square tube with 1/8" walls. It is 8' long and all openings are 16" so it would be easy to press a pair of skis or one snowboard at a time. Drew is a machinist in the Air Guard and welded this puppy up a few weeks ago. Since then we built our molds, a wood cat track out of 1.5"x1" boards and a double fire hose assembly with 3" diameter hose. As you can see in the picture it is being supported by tow strap which is a little sketchy so we are only pressing at 30 PSI. By the end of the week we will have a hinged support/brace system welded onto the frame. We got the first ski layed up and in the press about two hours ago so by morning we will know how the thing turned out. We are currently pressing outside but we will have an indoor space for it before we press more.
The press...
The bottom mold. As of now we are working with zero camber. Most of our skis and boards will be powder specific so we will be working with zero camber for the most part. There was also two more sheets of 1/8" masonite added to this after the pic was taken.
