my brand new press..

Post by esscher »

Some of you may have read my thread about my aluminum i-beam. I asked if it would work as the lengthwise supportive member of a ski/board press. Most people said yes it would work, so I went ahead with my design and built it. Here are a couple of pictures...

The supportive end posts are made of 6" stanard c-channel. The cost for the c-channel was $140 inc. tax. It required exactly 20 ft.

I modeled this press the Kublai press most of you have seen. The only difference is the aluminum i-beams.

The distance between the two uprights (the throat) is 20". The length of the aluminum ibeams is 90". That would be enough room for a pair of 228cm skiis. A little long? yes, for sure, but maybe I want to make those ski jumping skiis :)

i have access to autodesk inventor and am currently learning how to use the FEA features. Here is a model of this press I made in inventor:

I have the tip/tail mold showing in this model, but no camber yet.

So what do you think? For more construction and layout of snowboards in general, check out my website...

Hi esscher

my experience with that kind of press is horrible. when you pressurize the press you will see your press deflecting...but you can still do some cage to prevent that. just do something like rogue snowboards press, look video in you tube :) nice prees

I would agree with you about the deflection. I planned to use at least two "cage" supports. I just have not assembled them yet.
