I have Phase Converter already. Build one couple years ago for Montana sander
3 hp is lot more than I ever need but finally I got medal cutting bandsaw
Now need to test it, put it on casters and after that old Betsy, 14 inch Delta, will be for sale

How loud is your motor for the third phase? Ive heard them be really annoying. You must have a decent sized shop.
Are the voltages pretty equal under load?
Is it 120 each phase or 240v each? or 120 120 240?

Third Ph motor very quiet, at least mine When Montana running you can't hear it when it not quietly humming

Not without challenges got bendsaw running. Great piece of industrial machinery.

MM if to compare floorspace taken by a small band saw compared to this beast it's not substantial different. 14" band saw taking 15"x22" of floorspace compared to 24"x24". On heavy duty casters moving around.... no problem..
If you need Ph converter best and most economical way is find locally motor and buy on eBay control panel

MM I asked an electrician it is not 120/120/120.... 120/240/120 or something like that and one led carrying more amperage than others

In Europe every household can get three phase power easily, most have at least one three phase in the garage.

And those fancy waterproof plugs are the standard three phase plugs in Europe...nothing special here except for Europe having a pretty good power system

What's the purpose for 3ph power wired to residential house? How About equipment? Regular retail tablesaw 3ph 220?

Best part of 3ph equipment around here is... Nobody want it. Same high end used tablesaw for example will be half price of identical saw with single phase motor not to mention sellers have hard time to sell them

From what I understand the 3ph uses less energy to run the equipment and the motors last longer because of the way the motor is configured.
I have no idea just what I thought I knew.
Just because you have the 3ph power doesnt mean you have to use it for all your appliance in your home.

3 phase motors have a number of benefits......

* simple construction, no need for starting circuits and start/run capacitors
* they can be run off variable speed drive inverters to be controlled speed
* more reliable - lack of complexity
* cheaper to build so cheaper to buy (not withstanding the need for 3ph supply and wiring in your workshop!)
* ultimately they come in higher ratings than single phase motors so if you need real grunt then you have to go 3ph usually
* they are preferred by power utilities especially for larger customers who run lots of motors to keep the 3phase on the actual power network balanced

I envy anyone who has it already in their workshop as it really does open up opportunities!!!!! There are so many very capable but redundant CNC machines on the market that are perfect for ski building and are very low priced, simply not fast enough to make kitchens with anymore but perfect for DIY skibuilders! You just need 3ph to run them.....

Every house have single phase 220. With phase converter or appropriate VSD with single phase input three-phase output..... Three-phase easy done. As you said it equipment better and cheaper.

Anyway back to shop porn lol got bend saw cleaned up checked over. Re- wired and get it running. Mechanical variable speed can be adjusted from 50 to 5000 FPM very convenient. Overall very happy with up-great. Now need new blade 10' long and new blade guy because by DoAll design each blade wight require separate guide. saw came only with once for 1/4"blade
