The new shop is now done. Just have to move the press. Not looking forward to dismantling that thing.
New 63 twin split

2 new pairs of touring skis. The carbon set weigh just a sniff over 3.5 pounds a ski. Sitka/Cypress cores.

And a new board I just flashes for a whistler trip next week. Soft biax glass. Poplar/paulownia/maple/bamboo core. Oak top with a graphic of a Stephen Harper. The worst Canadian prime minister of all time.

Thanks dude. When if comes to splits you need to decide if you want to layup 2 cores, or build the cores with extra sidewall in the middle. This will make the board wider. You need to spread the inserts the same distance. Then place the 2 bases on the cassette with a gap that matches the extra sidewall down the centre of the core also. I design for 2-3 mm extra. The last step u do is split the board And put a clean 90 degree bevel on the inside sidewall.
There is a lot to go wrong, let's put it that way.
Finished this board up today

I know. I'm very lucky. I live in a small coastal community, I have a sawmill 3 blocks from my house.
I don't use fast growing tree species. Red alder is the only one that grows here.
I get to use older growth sitka spruce and yellow cedar. 20plus yearly growth rings an inch minimum. Some of the yellow is so old and slow growing, you can't even see the ring count with your eye.
My country has over the last handful of decades exported 80% of our old growth trees. I don't feel bad using a couple locally.
Would be nice though it was for something like furniture or cabinets that will last forever.
I can but poplar(aspen) inland a bit(3 hour drive), but for now this free mast and spar grade sitka spruce will work fine
