carbon/basalt?

Post by strocka »

I found some carbon/basalt cloth (3k, 2X2 twill, 20oz/sq yard). I'm looking to lighten up my next pair of skis for a little bit of touring. Has anyone used this before? Any ideas about how this will react in the ski (pressing or skiing)?

Thanks

I have some basalt and I know that it is quite similar in all parameters to glass fabric, apart from that it is 100% green.

Have not tried any carbon/basalt

If you're going for pure weight savings, any fibers running laterally are basically doing nothing for your skis. You want longitudinal fibers for bending stiffness, and diagonal fibers for torsional stiffness.

It probably looks nice though :)
