why would you put the TC in the cattrack? Dummie. Sorry, but stupid. You way over cooked the ski, no doubt.

I agree that you should be putting the thermocouple on the cassette.

I overcooked a ski once upon a time and it came out looking the exact same. Move your T/C as close to the ski as possible.

You should really cut the ski open to see what exactly is going on inside. Might give you a little insight into what physically is happening, regardless of the cause.

Might look cool too :)
