SD - you might want to look at the processes around staypak, compreg and other forms of stabilised wood. There are a number of US companies who may offer information, but there's no-one in the UK : (

CO - I don't think what you are considering is so different from the co-extruded films. They are OK, but the wood doesn't come through the covering in the same way (if that make sense).

Awww come on SD, where's your spirit of adventure? I know of a couple of manufacturers that LOVE this crap...I just haven't figured it out yet.

I'm really resisting the urge to apply any kind of "plastic" film over the top in order to get that perfect finish. Too bad lacquer isn't more durable, because that dries pretty fast.
