I like the QA testing. All that type of testing we can do ourselves. The problem I find is building/buying the equipment to record the results. I like the boingy-boingy machine at 2:42+ but how do you begin to capture info and what exactly do you capture? Or is it the type of test that runs for an hour then you check the ski for deficiencies?
That equipment is a little more hi-tech than my 30lb bucket of weights

I guess those stress tests are meant to mimic things the ski encounters in its life eg running into a tree/rock etc or being roughly hit into the ground when carrying/leaning on stuff. I think they would just keep on whacking them either until something broke or up to a figure they thought was higher than how many times that would happen in a ski's life. I guess with the dropping test they would keep going higher and see if the tip delammed or not.
Don't wait up, I'm off to kill Summer....
Radical Snowboards looks funny...they've been in business for 27 years and they're still using that weird press. Nice stuff though. My neighbors hate my "testing" days...I stand in the parking lot throwing a board into the air as high as I can for an hour and then run over 'em with the car for awhile.
"86% of the time it works 100% of the time".
here's some more r&d, this time from line

SD - in response to your question ... (well an attempt)
Putting aside the ISO standards, then testing is around the key characteristics you want to measure. Twizz very kindly gave me some guidance in the past, but basically flex, torsionally stiffness, side impact resistance, vibration dampening etc.
I have started with flex and torsion right now, as I am OK with vibration. I would recommend a bouncing ski machine. Measure flex etc, put it on the machine, 10,000 cycles, measure again .... so how long will the ski last? Result!
I would like to think, the machine measure the rate (speed) at which the ski returns from the deformed state (aka POP). I am also interested in measuring the angle created at the base plate when the ski is deformed. I need to find an approximation for ski boot and bindings.
IMHO, the flex-prediction spreadsheets should be dropped as a form of reference when building. Build your own test rigs and work out from there.
I have other stuff going on - having gotten lucky and found a few skiers within relevant test facilities. Feel free to give me a shout if you start to build, I can at least let you know my mistakes.
