qcm emv0043 combo for clearer stuff

Post by knightsofnii »

anybody have a recommendation of what qcm hardner to use that will result in a clear mix?

I'm using EMV0043 with ECA408, while mixed and during layup the last batch of hardner turned the mixture a dark burgandy color which over time fades to a dark yellow.

Emv0043 is pretty close to clear, and i want to experiment with pigments, which I cant really do with this combo. Sucks because the results have been so awesome but i want to try to do some resin swirls.

Maybe I can press a no-topsheet board, then go with something more clear for the top half, and re-press?

hows the viscosity of the mix? i know emv0043 is pretty thick on its own. eca408 is like water so the combo ends up like kinda fluid like marine epoxy.
I fear if its too thick i wont be able to get the swirl effect i'm going for by mixing pigments; however, i dont want to sacrifice the fact that qcm stuff can survive an atomic attack

The hardener (ECA-032) is fairly thin, although I've never used any other so I don't have anything to compare it too. I warm up both my resin (EMV-0049) and hardener w/ a heat lamp for a couple hours to aid in mixing and easy of spreading. The resin is pretty thick at room temp.

I heat up mine too. Once mixed it's workable, but wetout is MUCH easier if its warm (as is mixing). You just have to work fast with warm epoxy.
