Nitro topsheet ?

Post by ben_mtl »

Hi all, I'm just back from my trip in France, skis went great even with a serious lack of snow in the french Alps (and I won't even tell about the Pyrenees...)

Anyway that's not the point. When I was there I got to bring my skis to a shop to have my base waxed and edges sharpened and I talk quite some time with the ski tech. He showed me a couple snowboards, I believe the brand was Nitro but I'm not 100% sure, they had a top sheet that wouldn't scratch, it was kind of rubbery. He told me he's very happy with this material on his rental boards as they keep their "brand new" look ways longer.
I was wondering if any of you have some info on this topsheet material, could be interesting, and I would be curious how a rubbery topsheet would affect the dampening...
A bad day skiing is always better than a good one at work...

could be ride snowboards...they use some sort of polyurethane topsheets. that stuff is usually really tough and scratch resistant, plus it bonds well :)

Nitro has rubber topsheets on a few of their boards (I think).

Glissade used rubber tops. I hated the feel of it. So damp. Too damp makes a board feel dead imo.

It's different from the glissade topsheets. It's a rental topsheet & i don't know who the supplier is, it's not from isosport or cps. We tried some topsheets with the rubber effect, it's not a damp as the glissade stuff. Problem we ran into was two fold, one it's hard to process, you couldn't make any protective foil to stick to it during pressing/finishing. The other problem was how heat sensitive it was, even screenprinting caused it to warp. I would love to find out what the topsheet is, cause what we had cps make didn't work.
