question about binding inserts

Post by markhusbands »

i'm wondering if it would be safe to mount a new ski with inserts (like the brass ones from slidewright (wont let me link)) in order to set them up as a swappable binding (dynafit) with another pair of skis. Seems just as easy as some of the plates out there and lighter. But are they only sufficient to replace one or two stripped holes or strong enough for the whole mount?

these?

I guess if they are meant to be good enough to replace 1 screw they should be good enough to replace all, but if they only replace 1 screw not quite as well as the original fixation then I would say no.

If you are building the skis why not just use inserts in your core

or from skibuilders store?

The brass ones were what I originally had in mind, but I suppose a complete kit would be more confidence inspiring. Still cheaper by far than a second set of dynafits. Says out of stock though...

you want the stainless inserts from TGR.
The kit is not necessary but you want a tap and stuff.
Look here:

I don't know what the status of these are in production but I'm sure they will be running another one soon.
I have a some, just haven't got around to using them yet.

The brass ones are hugggge and you end up putting a huge hole in your ski.
You want the thread cut ones anyway but I would not recommend using them.
