Ultrathin "Durafilm"?

Post by OnDeck »

Just discovered this forum and it's like a stumbling on to a nugget of gold in my own back yard. I look forward to being able to contribute myself.

I have a question, anyone's thoughts would be much appreciated.

Some manafacturers (Arbor, Never Summer) apparantly use a tough, very thin nylon (assume polyamide) layer as a topsheet, which apparantly saves weight. They call it an "ultrafilm durafilm". Maybe this is just a regular polyamide topsheet material formed unusually thin?
Does anyone know where such a material might be available, have any experience working with it, etc?

I've tried isosport, not getting much repsonse.

Sounds like the trade name would be from Crown Plastic, ie 'dura'. Could it be a form of their durasurf UHMW, made specifically for topsheets?

OK, thanks.

I need to ask around some more. Jones snowboards are also apprantly using some very thin film.

I really want to get into this stuff, it should be very light.
