Chelsea and I spent the afternoon watching the fernie free ski competition.
The final today was held on "richards run" a permanently closed area below polar peak.
There was definitely some spectacular skiing.
I shot some video, [here] is a some highlights. There are 3 in the file.
Sorry for the quality I forgot my tripod and photobucket will only allow 100meg max file size so they had to get chopped quite a bit.
Unfortunately we were too far from the announcer to catch the names of the competitors.

Unfortunately later that evening Travis Steeger was killed in a hit and run walking home.
He will be missed.
Montucky.. Fernie ski patrol has to do enough rope rescues every year without opening areas where a fall will potentially kill you.
Its way bigger and steeper than it looks in the videos
Besides there's lots of backcountry to scare the heck out of you
