PID Controller issues

Post by bobbyrobie »

Well i finally hooked everything up for a test run and seems to be heating up nicely. runing top and bottom heaters. Problem is the tc is very inaccurate. I was wondering if anyone else was having any type of issues with this sort of thing? maybe i just have something set incorrectly?

You have to program the pid for the type of calibration your tc has. I.E. "t, j, k, etc..."

Other than that you may just have the tc in a spot where the heat fluctuates (too far from heat source). Head Monkey noticed this as an issue on my press and suggested using these tc's http://www.omega.com/pptst/5LSC_5SRTC.html They are super thin and can be placed directly under the heat blanket in the middle so that you are reading the correct temp.

yeah im not sure what type of thermocouples i have. i got them for free they are the thin style like those in the omega link. i was getting some funky readings though haha. it was saying it was any where from -10 to 20 degrees lol. when the pad was easily 80+ degrees. looks like i am going to have to do some tinkering with the settings. I would get warmer readings if i didn't tape the tc to the aluminum sheet which i thought was odd.

i think i figured it out. i had the tc wire hooked up backwards. you would think red would be positive but i guess not haha.
