Can't wait to make some new skis... but it will have to wait since I'm not gonna be home for the next 8 month..

Ben. Fernie has a job fair every year near the end of October to fill all the winter positions around town.

the top layer is a sublimated topsheet made by a local snowboard maker in Quebec, I just sent him a photoshop file and 3 days later I had the printed topsheet in my mailbox. Same price as SBM and I'm glad I give work to local workers.

edit : sorry I didn't really understood the first time... So yeah after the top sheet I put a sheet of polycarbonate, cut approximatively the size of the ski, it's pre-bent and it allows to have a nice finish, very smooth. The idea is almost the same as the cat-track principle, but for vacuum bagging : apply the pressure indirectly to the ski through a flat surface that will "erase" almost all the defaults (but it has to be perfectly flat and clean)

Ahhh, finally done with the splitboard : I got all the missing hardware today so I've been able to install all the bindings system not temporarily anymore ! Hope to try it this week-end if the snow decides to come !

I noticed when bending the splitboard (like when testing the flex) I can hear a little "cracking" noise, like if fibers were breaking inside, not so much but enough to ask here if someone noticed the same thing on his skis ?

Anyway the flex seems pretty stiff :p

I am not sure why it is doing craking noise, but even skis sold at REI (Volk, K2, Salomon) do that when you flex them... I was surprised to notice that last week as I was testing the flex of some of them. My new Karhu are not doing that, and even my home made ski lacking some resin on the top layer doesn't do that any noise when I flex them...

I think it goes away after a little while...

I have always thought that was fibers in the wood core "breaking". When I get a brand new board I flex it until there is no cracking.

Just a question how much different is his press than mine? I never finished mine to perfection like his before posting like I would ever use my press in the shape it is in now.

The top surface of the mold in the picture is one continuous smooth surface (masonite), I then filled all screw head holes with car putty and bonded a sheet of laminate (Formica) on the top for the final mold surface.
This part has a direct influence on the final product, you want to do something very clean. I don't think you will layup your skis with small pieces of fibreglass leftovers patched together... same thing for your mold.

Thank you but I was never finished with my press. I love how you guys think that it is done when you put pictures online.
