Delam problem! HELP!!!

Post by telehead »

Just pulled a pair of skis out of the press, and with not alot of flexing they started to delam. So, we pulled them all apart and found that the epoxy did not bond to any of the layers. Apon further examination it looks like the epoxy is almost "Crystalized" you can almost rub it off and it is like...powder??? Have been using QCM epoxy and I have had very good luck, nothing has changed in the layup process, press PSI, heat, and time in the press. Confused to say the least. Thanks for any comments, or help...KT

wrong blend? with most epoxies a 5% miss is critical.

sounds like too much hardner or it started kicking early because you spent too much time during layup?

i also use qcm and so far it rocks: EVH0043 and ECA408hardner.
The resin is quite thick. The hardner is thin, but is supposed to contain flex modifiers in it. Though i'm wondering if they're really in the resin not the hardner because the hardner is like brown water. Not what i'm used to.

Anyway, they make a good combo, slightly higher viscosity than marine resin, but way more pop and lively flex, and has a 45minute pot life.

Cure for 45min at 180ish degrees. Longer if you're ramping up, which it usually takes a few minutes to get your materials heated up anyway. So give it an hour.
