I made some pre-preg carbon: put under vacuum for about 1 h (full curing time > 20 hours), then I used the material to make some complicate shapes (helmet shell and boot shell). Pre-preg worths only for making 3D shapes. For home made skis, it is useless and too complicate. Salomon press the skis on...

Hi, I had a look at your website. I saw you go to look "momigi" with a snowboard...

Regarding your snowboard building, hinoki would be a great wood probably.

For my first pair I spent 30 euro for a router, less than 20 euro for other manual tools and about 50 euros for wood to build molds and router tables. Then material cost for one pair was about 60 euro, plus a vacuum bag (about 5 euro). I borrowed the vacuum pump, but later I got a second hand one (a...

The amount of oil getting out from the exhaust tube is proportional to the amount of air that is pumped out. If the pump is connected to a sealed bag, there will little smoke in the beginning and then no smoke. If the bag is not tight, there will be a lot of smoke coming out all the time. It is not ...

I always pressed one pair (sometimes two or three pairs in one time), but if you are more comfortable to press one ski after the other, do it. When I made my very first pair, I weighted both skis before and after layup, to be sure I put the some amount of resin on both. This can help you to have sam...

Yes, approach skis are not great, that is why I had in mind to make something lighter and foldable. Pictures are from the area around Kagura while the last ones are around Iwappara, right? If I have well understood, in Japan, most of the time, you need to take lifts before starting hiking. The fores...

Do you like splitboards? A guy told me splitboards are less nice to ski than regular snowboards, so he wanted to build some short, very light folding skis for walking up. Snowshoes also are not the best.
What do you think?
