It is possible, but it is kind of a lost art. What you describe is basically Snocad, do you have it?

I used the dual base/core template at first, then I switched to using the base template with a rabbit router bit with a bearing 10mm undersized. I make a first cut about 1/2 the thickness of the core. Then I use a staight bit with a bearing to take off the excess, using the core as the template. Did...

I have (2) monster w14x38 beams on the bottom. They are 6.77" wide, so I have a gap of about 2.5" (press is 16" wide). My bases come out fine. I do have a 3/4" mdf laying between the beams and the bottom mold and a 1/4" thick sheet of aluminum on top of the bottom mold also....

I have done what DBS points out by stacking 2x4's behind the tip/tail molds to force the hose to continue the curve. This will alow you to not have to cut new molds.

Magdrill : All holes done in 1/2 hour with 1 bit, clean holes, no effort.

Regular drill: Almost a full day, multiple bits, rat nasty unperpendicular holes, eat your wheaties.

Magdrill is by far worth it.
