Wooden sidewalls
Hi Plywood The cold has arrived and on driving home last night we got sleet on the windscreen. Snow in the foot hills and this is very rare for Napier where we live. (2 and half hours from mountain). The issue with the veneer is around the tip and tail and probably related to not enough resin. Next ...

Where to get Rimu veneer in New Zealand
Found a great supply of veneer in NZ is door manufacturers. They often cut purfect sized bits off that cover skis just fine. this is very thin stuff and very easy to sand through so be careful. The next pair I make I am going to use a ptex top sheet to hopefully stop the chipping. Plywood, we ski at...

Update
So here is the saga. Finally got the mould made out of 1/2" mdf screwed down at each end with a 10mm spacer in the middle to create the camber. The tip and tail risers were mdf cut to shape. Over this was laid a sheet of bench top laminate secured with carpet tape. Over the bench laminate I car...

Fibreglass resin with micro-balloons
I come from a sailing background. We use a fairing compound that is made up of epoxy resin and Colodial Silica (commonly known as Micro-balloons) West systems sell it by the bag and it is pretty cheep. mix a standard resin up and slowly add the Micro balloons, keep mixing and adding until you get a ...

Cool graphics
SCC's designs rock. What is wrapped around your template tips? Is this for edge recesses?

Progress Update
Hi all Some progress. bases are now cut out and edges glued on. What a cr*p job that was. I have drilled some holes in the wood core to marry up with some dowels that I have glued to the base material. I have also got hold of some biax glass 45deg but it looks like it is 400gsm (11oz?) I think that ...

Can I use top sheet as a base?
I have some top sheet that I am not using. Can I use this as base material? It has a shiny surface. Could I just sand it back so it will take up the wax?

MONKSKI - Made in New Zealand
Ok so the name is lame but it was all I could think of. So here it is. New and First skis to be made by me. The are pretty basic with measurements 109mm Tip, 87mm waist, and 96mm tail, 170cm long. The measurements come from up-sizing a K2 Omni. Most of the skiing I do is on piste. The core is pine 8...

Reasons for the question
The main reason I had was I am vacume bagging and if I top sheet then I don't need to have a peel ply layer. I was also concered that resion would seep through the veneer and stain the wood. I understand that it will add a bit of stiffness but I am using a pine core so I don't think it will be a pro...

Clear topsheet over wood veneer
Hi all About to start my build but I need to know if anyone has put a plastic top sheet over a wood veneer as a graphic layer? I have managed to get two sheets of "book matched' Rimu veneer which is a native wood here in New Zealand, but I want to protect it as much as possible. Regards Nathan
