I see some of my pics are still up.
I get emails everyday from photophucket saying my account has been disabled and to give them money if I want to keep them.
Sorry if they go away but can't justify giving them money.

Re: Tip fill alignment issues
My cores and tip filler are wider than the finished ski.
I use a dab of hot glue to attach the 2 just outside of the ski.
It gets cut off with the flash.

Re: White spots showing through base material.
Looking at your pic, I think the answer is shown just above the p-tex. Looks like bubbly cured epoxy. Could be cavitation from your spreading technique? Wet out your maple and your base. Try not to whip up any bubbles. If you're using heat the air will expand and those bubbles have no where to go. J...

Re: epoxy cure time
I still use my old electric blanket folded to fit over the skis on my vacuum press.
I cover it with a yoga mat for insulation, gets pretty darn hot.
I bought it at goodwill type store for a couple bucks.

Re: First pair of skis!!
Sam I've had hairy bases before when using new belts (especially ceramic) on the grindrite. You can remove it with a hot wax and scrape. I use a single edged razor to scrape the wax off and most of the hairs come with it. It might take a few wax scrape cycles to get it all off. Let the wax cool hard...

Re: 22 oz vs 19 oz vs added core thickness
I know my 22oz and 19oz have the same material in the 45's just a lighter 0 in the 19. Torsional rigidity is pretty similar between the 2. The 19 makes a softer longitudinal flex with the same core, and the ski a bit lighter. Adding some carbon tow to the 19 adds longitudinal stiffness and still kee...

Re: cariboo skis
I'm at around 3000' elevation and have a very similar vac pump (old robinair). I pull around 24"hg even with a small leak thru the glue joints on my press frame. You will do better once you get some proper sealing tape and a decent film. I used 6mil vapour barrier for my first few builds with t...

Re: Monoski
Thanks mammuth, My buddy worked at and with Faction to design the first rockered mono. He has a few different boards but I think they are all fairly old designs. Will see if he's interested in something a little more modern. We all struggled with the idea of shaped skis when they came along, but onl...

Re: Monoski
Dug this old post up as a friend has asked me to build a mono to replace his old Faction. Spent a bit of time measuring the thing tonight. Sidecut is set way back, 37cm's from the ski center. Looks to be about 25m radius. Board dimensions at 190cm's 240-185-190. Core is around 8mm down to 2mm with a...

Use a J-roller to push the excess epoxy out. This will also help smooth out some of the transfer you're getting from your X's of carbon that show in your ski pic. You need to have somewhere to push that excess to. I've used breather along the sides or at the tip and tails and roller-ed all the exces...

Re: mold and core profiler
Thought I'd drop this here. Nice to see Photophuket put the pics back up. Still using this method, just made a new sled last week. Think I'm on my 4th set of trim boards now. I've used this method for cores and camber molds. Super adjustable and cheap. I've even reversed it to make reverse camber mo...
