Yes I do use a top sheet on them. It was from Durasurf. I'd like to try and do a ski w/o a top sheet but have not gotten comfortable with the set up portion yet.... As all things, in due time, I hope. Looking at your boards has gotten my son and I interested in doing one that way. Keep us posted on the durability issues.
