I decided to make a mess in someone else's space tonight, so I went to campus and used the lab.

Here it is, all cleaned up:

All the "character" that I was worried about in the topsheet will sand out. I did a small part right in the binding are as a test, just in case it went wrong. A little sanding and a coat of spar varnish, and it looked damn good.

sweet sticks!

i think to get a smooth surface is a general problem of using vacuum. so maybe you should get some sort of stiffer topsheet in future.

plywood,

I'm actually not even using a topsheet! I just have the layer of cotton fabric graphics, followed by a layer of 4 oz glass.

DISASTER!

:(

So I finally got into the lab tonight to press the 2nd ski. Everything went as smooth as it could have. I had the mold re-surfaced with Alu. sheet, all the glass got pre cut, everything fit sweet.

Then 45 minutes into the bagging the vacuum pump died.
