steel edge

Post by christian71 »

hi all,

I am new on this forum and on ski costruction.
I am a bit confused on the material price.
I am looking for steel edge and I see that on skibuilders store I need
4 steel for a ski pair (total amount 10 USD dollar, equal to 8 EUR).
Unfortunately I live in Milan (Italy) so probably the delivery price won't be cheaper.
I try to contact MetalDeutsche (located in Germany) and I have a surprise:

delivery price for Italy 13 EUR (This is an acceptable price)
8 meter of steel edge (the amount needed for a ski pair) 56 EUR (equal to 72 USD dollars).

that is a surprise.

Why this different price ?
I am asking for something beyond my needed ? (I am checking with metaldeutsche)

Can someone suggest me where to buy steel edge in Europe/Italy ?

Many Thanks
best regards
Christian

Because MD don't want to sell 8m. of edge, they want to sell you 8km.

Steel edge is probably the cheapest part of the ski if you buy in right quantities. (or..fibreglass is probably cheaper by the way)

I'm kind of surprised that they offered this amount of material - normally they only sell entire rolls (price per kg).

As it might fit to this topic:

I'm still looking for edges 2mm wide or wider - if anybody's going to order some or can sell me some meters i would be very happy!

This is my first ski pair costruction, and now I am very confused.
I don't need good quality since I don't expetc great result from the first try.
The base should be 1.3mm thick (I have to check).
How can I know how many type of steel are available and their usage ?
Skibuilder propouse 1.33 step steel, is this a standard ?

Thanks for the information.
Bye

I know that Ski-man, in Germany are offering 1.35 and 1.9 mm steel edge, but they are a little out-priced (12€ per meter)
