Hi,
I am working n my first pair of skis.
I had an MDF (2 cm) template made for the core. I am clamping the template on top of the core and the clamping both to my bench to do first one side and then the other side. I first remove the excess wood with a jigsaw.
First question: is the re a way I can have my jigsaw to follow the template and have the blade 1 or 2 mm away from the template? On my first core I did it with my eyes and I ended up sawing my core and my template :-(
Once the excess wood is removed I use a small router: https://www.metabo.com/com/en/tools/cut ... outer.html
I use the router with a 16 mm bit with a bearing at the bottom (last one on the right from this kit): https://www.galaxus.ch/fr/s4/product/bo ... ier=406802
The issue I am facing is that sometimes the router plate moves slightly using the bearing as the pivot point resulting on the bit removing material from the core under the surface of the template. I hope it is clear. Any suggestion to avoid this?
I was thinking of potentially building or buying a router table so that I could slide the core with the template on top avoiding the problem above. Any other easier / cheaper option?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi, Michelounet
I think you can make a simple router table yourself. Just take a suitable piece of plywood or MDF and screw your router to the bottom and make a hole for the router bit. This will be a router table that will most likely solve your problems.

Thanks. Looks quite simple to build. I will give it a try.
For the jigsaw I build I jig with a small bearing just in front of the blade.

Re: Sidecut with router issue
you can try un other way: give more stability at your router, like this french man https://www.samuelmamias.com/redonnez-d ... efonceuse/
personally depending what i do, i use both techniques: table or more stability.

Thanks all for the input.
For the router I ended up building a table see pictures below. I am waiting for the new core templates and then I will give it a try.

Tested the table on a core...works like a charm! Thanks
