Tip fill alignment issues

I'm having trouble with keeping the tip fill aligned with the core. I've tried using medical tape to keep the core butted up with the tip fill, but this only marginally works. I think the root cause is when I vacuum press, as it starts sucking the core down to the form, the two pieces go out of alignment.
I wanted to hear if there are any suggestions? Maybe more tape that a couple pieces? Maybe more tape at the ends?
Also, I need to fill this gap. Any suggestions on epoxy type? I'm thinking the CLR that I'm used wouldn't be low enough viscosity.
