Dye Sublimation with Showthrough to Core

Does anyone know how to only sublimate portions of a topsheet? In my experience a sublimated clear topsheet looks like stained glass until it's backcoated with white ink. The backcoat makes it almost impossible to leave intricate showthrough of carbon or core underneath. Just the pure sublimated "stained glass" looks terrible as well.

Examples:
Faction Prime Series
Volkl BMT Series

Both of these have sublimated graphics but showthrough to the carbon. Lots of other major manufacturers have similar examples.

They are either using a different printing technique or they are covering parts of the topsheet before flooding the back - you could do this for simpler shapes with vinyl cut stickers.

I really like chrismp’s sticker idea for masking an area. For a larger or more complex mask, you could screenprint your white.
