Trimming edgeless snowboard tail/nose

Post by mmeyran »

I searched the forum for this topic but no luck..
I’m thinking about a partial edge wrap on my next swallowtail build to simplify the edge wrap and try a new technique. Could someone advise the best method to trim the board after the press without edges? Do you use the base template to trim the flashing back to an exact shape ( not having a metal edge to use as a guide)?
Thanks/Mike

You could trace even just a paper template. We like to cut our base the the exact shape still and just follow the base shape.

Ok thanks. So you just freehand it using the base as the guide, and just cut carefully and run the edge through a sander to finish?

Correct, I use a jigsaw to cut close (1/32” away maybe”) and use a sander until the belt just starts hitting the base. Tipfill and glass sand slow enough that its very repeatable.

You dont cut your base to the final shape before laminating?

Otherwise you just use your base as template to cut and trim, freehand ;)
