ski companies vs skibuilders.com

In the morning I visited a couple of ski shops here in Geneva:
The new Dynastar Legend series (http://www.skipass.com/photos/matos/4020/5621.jpg), have a transparent topsheet at the tail, and the wood core looks like the ones I made (http://aeg.isuisse.com/img/rando1.jpg).
The edges stop before the tip and they put a metal protection on top, like a friend of mine did on his home-built skis.
Salomon Siam Origins have also a transparent topsheet on the whole ski: woodcore is replaced by foam at tips like Alex did http://www.wildplaces.de/bilder/oben.jpg.
So, it seems companies are doing some effort to keep up with the skibuilders…
