Asymmetric sidecuts

What do you think about the asymmetric shapes, promoted by GNU?
Deeper heel-side sidecut, shorter toe-side contact...
Have anybody here tried something like that?
GNU make theirs shapes with 0.4 m. difference in the sidecuts.
Does it worth a shot or this is just a marketing?

Never tried it, but there are some ski companies doing the same thing. I might build one over the summer as an experiment.

YES Snowboards, built by Nidecker have a new sweet Asymmetrical board. The brain child of JP Solberg.

Also I have seen many Asymmetrical Snowboards specifically made for Snow Kiting , as you spend much more time on your heel side edge then toe side.

.4m is next to nothing IMO. I wouldnt expect to feel any difference at all. Fwiw I believe there is some merit in asymetric sidecuts after playing with radii from 8m to 18m this season, but .4m? Meh

May be the difference has to be bigger than 0.4m
GNU is serious producer, so I believe theirs innovations make sense
Btw, we built 2 very simple boards.
The only one difference - One of them has magnetraction
That board is incredible compared to the other one..
I will write another topic with the details...

As I said I believe it has some merit, after my testing this season I will make an asymetric board but the difference will be more like 2m. I can understand that being a commercial manufacturer they have to moderate and tame ideas down for the mainstream. Ever seen a concept car vs its production car counterpart?
Its all horses for courses. Personally I hate magnetraction, it just slows me down.

I would personally love to hear about the steps you took to create your magnatraction.

Trace the edge of a magnetraction board?
