New load of Isosport nylon

I just got a few skids in from Isosport. Mostly nylon...white with and without fleece and clear nylon 8210 in matte, gloss and a new gloss pebble texture that quite a few customers had interest in. Now is the time to get your fresh clear nylon and most of our nylons are in wider widths up to 350mm. It might be 2-3 months before the next order comes in, so if you need nylon this season get your claim in before it's gone. Email for custom pricing on 200m or larger orders.

I'm also starting to carry more base material this year after getting requests for more black base. I have 1.2 Isosport and 1.4 crown in black. We are increasing our clear base over time also because of more interest in printed bases.

I hope everybody has a great build cycle this year and we can only hope the economy rebound will help us all grow.

The gloss clear nylon... how clear is it? Sort of semi-clear, or is it totally clear? (i.e. do you think it would look good over a layer of veneer? I did that once with some clear stuff I got from SnowboardMaterials.com a few years ago and it looked outstanding, but haven't been able to get that same stuff again)

We have quite a few people using the 8210 all by itself or with a one or two color minimal graphic such as a logo. They are using it over wood and carbon, and a few are using it over sublimated Nexus or cloth. The clarity is good...not like glass...but it is the toughest and clearest product out there for snowsports. The only thing clearer on the market would be a PMU, but it is only good in water sports. There are some ski manufacturers using variations of ABS which has the same clarity as the clear nylons, however the material is softer and not nearly as durable as nylon. Most ABS also needs a UV clear coat or it will yellow. But there are a few larger ski manufacturers still using it because it's cheap.

When you come down we will show you some samples including the new textured gloss. We have had some complain about the perfect gloss finish getting marred and scuffed in short time and this material will help hide some of that longer.

The clear gloss nylon I woild compare to glass clear.
It blows the uhmw and the tpu out if the snow.
Have you heard crown has a new clear urethane hybrid topsheet made just for snow sports?

ive gotten samples of the clear gloss nylon, and it basically looks like whatever is underneath it was clear coated and polished and polished and polished and polished. If I were to veneer under it, i would also throw at least a thin layer of fiberglass between the veneer and the topsheet. Any low weight glass should virtually disappear when wet out

This was done with the gloss clear top.
This build was different colors of epoxy poured onto the top layer of 19oz biax s glass, then squeegeed off excess, added some clear epoxy to get it saturated, saturated some ricepaper logos in random spots, and laid the clear top over it. The whole technique to doing this was adapted from surfboard "resin swirling", but I had to add my own techniques to make it good on a snowboard.

Must see this in person to believe it, photos will never do this justice.
anyway, just posting this here as a testimony to what the clear nylon can do, anything under it will be visible for sure. [/img][/url]

Madman...The new Crown top...can I just say does anyone remember Duraclear? If someone uses this the first thing they should do is see if it needs a clear coat for UV protection.

I have seen time and time again that saving money doesn't always get you a great product. Whether you are banking your reputation in business on your product or home crafting the best custom product that you can make, wouldn't you want to work with the best?

I feel some things are just better for some sports and not another. I might look at if for skateboards myself.

duraclear was UHMW right?
It looked terrible.

This is a .2mm material so pretty thin.

They say they have made it for snowsports specifically.
Its definitely low cost.

Yeah Duraclear (at leat what I've been sold as Duraclear) was pretty thick and messed up with dark colors : the black ended up dark-blueish.. not that ugly but not what I was expecting... and did I say it was thiiiick ?

the major problem I personally had with Duraclear is it's TOO DURABLE!

Meaning... once it starts to chip... it doesnt chip... if something pulls it hard enough to delam, it just starts pulling everywhere, next thing you know half the perimeter of your board is delamming. Some chipping is good! If a traditional top chips, just break it off and it stops

Duraclear is just thinner base material. Base material only works because it's surrounded and protected by the metal edge.

To clarify -

Duraclear is a product made by Socrep. It is an ABS/TPU. ABS/TPU blends typically need a clear coat to resist UV. Otherwise expect yellowing and cracking etc. There are some blends of ABS/TPU that are more resistant to UV, but as a whole, most need some sort of UV inhibiting clear coat. It is still used by many high volume snowboard and snow ski manufacturers to cut costs by using a lower quality product. I do not know if Crown is making this product in the US or having it manufactured in Europe in agreement with Socrep.

Durasurf is a product made by Crown which is UHMW in a .030" thickness. Yes, milky white that makes blacks look blue and all the other descriptions listed It is produced as a top sheet for snow sports and a base sheet for watersports. Durasurf has become well liked in the wakeboard/wakeskate arena because of it's toughness and the fact that it is very fast on the water.

its too tough, if you ding it, it doesnt chip or peel, it lifts and pulls on its neighboring self, and starts lifting everywhere

I am gonna lam a few boards with veneer and was thinking of using the 8210 topsheet over it. Maybe you can help me get the best result. What would I be trying to achieve by putting a little glass between the veneer and the topsheet? Is it for protection for the topsheet? Maybe to stabilize a thin layer of resin during pressing? I'm curious.
