rabbet router bit size?

Post by hegan »

Going to start putting a rabbet on my cores, no more grinding down the bases. My plan is just use one of these.

There are a few different threads on this... when you think about it, you really just want the teeth to have a place to live in your core. So the depth of the rabbet is the tooth height, and the amount you want to cut in should align with the horizontal plane of the teeth... I'd meaure your teeth dimensions and go from there...

If you are using that style of bit, you might have trouble controlling the depth unless you have a guide attachment or something. I use a straight flute bit with no bearing on the bottom and set the depth on my plunge router. Then i lay the base template offset a few inches and slide the router base alone the base template to get the form. Some people claim to free hand this as well.
