What are you using to cut the base material where the metal edge ends on a 3/4 wrap to get a nice square corner from when it is rounded by the router?

Razor blade by hand.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Has not been the easiest to make the perfect cut but with more practice I should get better.

Also on these 3/4 edge wraps, any pointers on how to finish the fronts without the edge there to cut and sand against to get the nice curve?

We've just taped a plot of the tip shape on, rough cut on the band saw, then sanded smooth. Doesn't need to be super precise, just look nice. On the pair I'm working on now, the template is basically the final shape so I'll just cut by eye right up to the ptex, then sand smooth.

I was using a razor blade, but after having to make several cuts I switched tools. I'm using the bottom tool in this plier set. Works like a charm, and very easy to make sure you get an accurate square cut without securing the base.

Oh...and it's as cheap as a good razor blade tool.

This is the way I've been doing it.
Or draw the shape on paper and trace onto the ski with a sharpie.
Either way works fine.

I glue 2 strips of ptex base around the tip to pad out where the edge would be. Also tack it w/ fine finish nail and nail gun.

Then route the base using the modified template w/ router and bearing. Clean up the rounded corner w/ a razor.

I do the same only using left over tip spacer.
The fit is excellent.
Brad nailer used to use staple gun, sometimes there was sparks!

i use a razor blade, and usually make about 3-4 cuts checking with the edge after each one. i never try to do it in one move

HA! Pre-layup snack - It's good for you.

I do the same as that picture, but also use tip spacer material double sided taped onto the template (can pull it off if I am stupid enough to think that I can get a good full edge wrap!).
In terms of finishing I cut near to the p tex with a jig saw with the ski upside down. Then have a drum sander in a drill press with a table underneath. I have found that this drum in the drill press is really good at working on the tip shape getting it nice and round.
The Dr uses a drum in his handheld router to do a similar thing with his soul skis. I stole the idea and adapted from him.
