Tip/tail fill thickness

I see some of you guys have core dimensions 3-12-3 for example. I am thinking of making my next tip and tail 3mm but if your tip and tail fill material is 2mm thick what are you using to get to match the 3mm core. I thought about putting an extra layer of fiberglass just in the tip and tail area but I do not think it will make up anywhere close a 1mm diff. Any suggestions.
I also see some people are using a rubber layer in their skis I think for dampening. I might want to try using it but I do not know what kind of rubber and where to get it. Does some rubber have bonding issues? Thanks if someone can point me in the right direction on this.

If you're using plastic tip fill then you can make up the difference with a layer of FG below and above he tip fill. I use wood veneer as tip file. The veneer is 1.5mm thick, so I use 2 layers.
The rubber is called VDS and you s/b using that in your layup over the edges. Go to the Links section and look for Blank slate, snowboard materials and a few others.

I haven't heard of any home-builders using any rubber other than VDS, yet.
As for the tip spacer, I've done a few skis with 3mm tips on the core, and I still just used 2mm tip spacer and didn't do anything special. I ended up with a very slightly "ramp" on the topsheet there, but because of the cattrack/cassette, I don't get a sharp step, so it's hardly noticeable.
