base as tip fill

just wondering if anyone has used base material as tip fill, just to get it a little thiner. i don't see why it wouldn't work i just would have to sand the other side and flame. I looked around for this but didn't see anything if it is there all i ask is that you kindly point me in that direction.

I used 2 pieces on top of each other and slightly sanded one so the 2 combined was my 2mm core thickness.
works just fine.
i put a bit of rubber between them for better bond.
