Does anyone clean their rubber prior to layup?

Never seen it in a vid but its kinda dirty. I clean it with denatured alcohol most times, sometimes not. I've cleaned it with water also.

I just generally use a brand new rubber before "Laying Up".

I used to clean it until my friend who's built 1000's of pairs of skis told me I was wasting my time. I don't do it anymore, and I haven't had any issues yet. The CDW rubber I now use seems to be a lot cleaner than the skibuilders stuff. It doesn't have the powder all over it. I try and keep the roll as clean as possible and keep the handling to a minimum. I really only clean with my air compressor.

I generally don't clean it unless it is really
dirty. I wipe bases with water and use the compressor to dry before flaming directly before lay up. I wipe the sidewalls with a dry cloth before flaming as to not get water on the core.

My roll is wide, so I have to cut it up. I give it a wipe with IPA.

I cut mine in half (50mm down to 25mm) too but have never cleaned it.
With flaming immediately before layup - is there any chance that will lead to deformation of your already shaped bases?

Sure! But I've no idea how DBS is able to get away with flaming the base material - that guy has skills!

I flame my base with it strapped to a template. It doesn't deform after its edged if the edges are bent well.

When I flame bases right before layup I usually let them sit while do other prep work. They seem to hold shape well

hahahahaha IPA. Classic. :D and...I always flame my base before layup as well. It curls up like an octopus having a seizure then lays back out perfectly when it cools. Just leave it alone after flaming.
