Which way do you do it?
Edge tines on top, base on bottom OR edge tines down so you see the base that contacts snow?
I think I have been doing it wrong for years.

Which way are you doing it? If the tines are on the bottom don't you run the risk of the glue adhering to your work table/surface? Unless you're doing it like RichUK. The last 2 skis I made (in progress actually) I had the base taped to the template and put the edges on tines up. I leave the base attached to the template until I'm ready to do the layup.

I have the edge on bottom so I can see what my running surface looks like and keep things nice and tight.

i've done it both ways. i kinda prefer to have the base on top of the tines so i can see the edge fit right away. i don't have full wrap edges though.

Im so dumb. I have been doing it edge tine up. My edge fit is OK but I always have trouble at the tips, and I frequently have to redo those sections after I turn the base over ans ee where I screwed up. I just didnt think I could get glue in there and make it stick. Boy was I wrong.
I just did a pair base up, edge tines down. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier and better.
I cant believe I have been doing it the other way for 30 pair. So dumb.
I have a plastic barrier so no adhere to template.
Even cutting the edge to fit my 3/4 wrap is so much easier and better.
Damn.
If you haven't tried tines down running surface up I highly suggest you do.

im a lazy bender, especially the tip/tail area never fits too perfect... i keep the tines under the base and press the edges to fit the radii without any gaps, hopefully not to pop of when finished or while pressing.most times it works..
are your edges bend exactly to fit without any force when gluing them??

I bend the edges as close as possible.

Hmm I think I get it now after a couple of re-readings...I think I will try this!

for those who are doing it tine down what type of glue do you use? I use a superglue that is super thing (water like) and if it did it tine down the glue would leak and stick the edge/base to the table...

I'm using the "gel" variant of it...might be a ok chioce

I'm using gorilla brand super glue. Supposed to be more impact resistant. Maybe slightly less brittle when cured.

I always edge with the running surface up, I use so many pony clamps that I can just flip it over. Nothing moves, and like you said you can see exactly what your running surface will be.

Ha! Now I have made a set of bases with running surface up! As said before SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better/easier in all areas!!
...and why hasn't this been issued before?

I know ridiculous right?
We all see it in the videos the other way, with prebent edges that fit exactly, so monkey see monkey do.
So stoopid!!

I don't even understand how you would do it with the tines down. How do you put on the glue? I have never even thought of attempting to do it that way. I don't get how you would.
