Tip/Tail length

Post by COsurfer »

Is the tip and tail length past the effective edge worthless?

Here is a snowboard with a flat tip/tail. While ugly, it should reduce the board wieght and shouldn't effect performance.
Thoughts?

Only works on groomers. Check out race board design. very short tip and tail. In any conditions other than groomed it doesn't work very well at all. That being said the old school morrow lunch tray, and Avalanche something or other were boards pretty similar and were great fun for jibbing around, but worthless in new snow or chunder.

Of course having a big rocker in the tip and tail could help, but still would be real tough to ride off the groomers. If your radius is too steep they will plow everywhere, and if the height is to low they will submarine or spear all over.

Yes, this works well. Last generation BX boards from oxess and kessler all go with "hammerhead" nose. Coiler also builds softboot carver board with short nose and tail.

But yes, you need decambered nose and tail. And not even big. Look at BX boards from oxess.
And this works not only on groomers. Because of rocker the board works good on bumps and soft snow too.

I also plan to build similar board. Having 160cm of overall length will have 140cm of effective edge and 120cm of Contact length when loaded.

doughboyshredder called it; my lips were actually forming the words "Morrow Lunchtray" as I read his post.

No matter how much rocker you have, i think it'll be a pain outside the park or off groomers. But a fun little resort board.

Spoons, lunchtrays, Morrow were ahead of their time. If only for their shitty foam cores......

You underestimate influence of rocker. Rocker lengthen nose without shortening effective edge much.
