So i read about different types of wood and different mixes and orientations in her all the time, but Whats really the most common wood to use?

Among skibuilders in here, and in the bigger industry?

I am thinking about reverse engineering a common design with 3 axis fiberglass 19-22 oz and "simple" wood core, and then compare the stresses in that with different configurations.

I allready made a bunch of samples and broke them in half but i did not have any 3 axis 19 or 22 oz to make samples with.

Probably maple, ash, bamboo are the most common.

poplar!

poplar is by far the most commonly used core material.

Ash is commonly used for stringers.

Bamboo is becoming more common.

Maple is rarely used by the big guys, but is occasionally used for stringers. A lot of small builders use it for sidewall material.

I'm switching to bamboo, but I've used a lot of spruce ("white wood" at the hardware store). It's really light.

Thanks again, i'll try too figure out what kind of bending moment this configuration can hold, and then compare.

going a bit slow with the practical stuff this week, since i am working on my paper. but we got a "heated curing box built", and i think we've figured out a good way to make the wood cores

is it :

Cottonwood Balsam, poplar or yellow poplar that is usually used? (this is the two types i could find)
