How to do a stresstest / analyse strenght of a press?

Post by Richard »

Hello, so Im wondering how you calculate strenght of a press?

I have figured out all thats hold my press together is 6 40x40x2mm square tubes(wich is holding 2 x 3 80x80x3mm square tubes together...)

I have bolted the 6 40's to the 80's with M12 grade 8.8 bolts... (2bolts pr vertical bar/40's)

I have a 4" tube that is 78" long(2m), I guess the total pressure would be 4" x Pi(3.14) x 78 = 979.68 (what is this number? :P )

After som reading I guess the bolt used(grade 8.8) will break at 800Mpa but would receive permanent damage at 640MPa..

Would the press be alligned equally to all bolts under pressure? ( I dont think so)

PS. will post some pictures when Im allowed ;)
PS2. I have already built my press, but I havent gotten to test it yet :(
