My girlfriend has just started skiing and is enjoying herself, and looking to buy her first set of skis and boots. Being a snowboarder I know absolutely nothing about skis, what's good, what to look for etc.

She's definitely beginner level but probably looking for something that will last her a few years, when she makes her way up to black runs etc.

She's 5'6" ish and 65kg or so (145lb). Her preferences are "very light and pretty", boots especially with the lightness.

Money isn't the issue so much as getting something that will be reasonably forgiving, fit her well and be as lightweight as possible, however also not looking to spend race ski kind of dollars.

Any help much appreciated!

If I hadn't build my own, I would probably choose Volkl. And with "some" experience from skiing them, They have never turned me down. They have everything, incl a "women line".

And Alex, be very very careful with "outing" your girlfriend's measurements! It can be very costly! In many ways... (They are more sensitive than you think)(believe me)

I think around a 150-155cm ski seems right from research, just gotta find the right product.

I'm a fan of Volkl and Fischer. Both have a nice line of skis and a line for women.

Fischer also has a Product Finder feature to help narrow down the ski based on your size and experience.

As an amateur skibuilder (well, snowboard builder..) you could also consider supporting small companies instead of sending more money to China or waterver.
I have no clue if ON3P or PMGear or other "small builders" have models that would fit your GF's needs but I would definitively look into it, they might even be able to make a custom construction if their baseline model is not a perfect fit.
