Hey Skibuilders,

I'm working on my senior design poster right now and I need to find out the specific materials used in a board. Here's what I've got now...

Topsheet: Typically PBT or Nylon #
Composites: Fiberglass or Carbon fiber
Core: Clear Wood or Foam
Edges: Stainless Steel (type)
Sidewalls: ABS, Wood, Epoxy, or Polyethylene
Inserts: 304 Stainless Steel
Baselayer: UHMWPE

...So I'm looking for the # of nylon typically used as well as the # of SS used for edges and Inserts. Thanks ahead of time.

rockwell 48 hardness edges not stainless.
I think stainless would be to brittle.

You can use ptex,UHMW for topsheet also.

Sidewalls aren't really made of epoxy, it's just the medium used to hold (glue) everything together.

You can have honeycomb cores as well (aluminium I think).

Base can be extruded or sintered UHMWPE if that's relevant. Kevlar/Aramid is also often included as a composite.

Sidewalls can also be nylon.

So.. I'm just looking for the actual material #s or names i.e. what I would order from a supplier.

Epoxy is used as sidewalls but very rarely.

Rockwell B or C hardness? I'm assuming that is B. And that's also just a hardness.

Thanks for the replies though.

What I'm looking for is along the lines of:

Edges are AISI 4000 Series steel perhaps 4040.
Inserts are low-carbon steel... #?
Are Nylon topsheets usually Nylon 6, 66, 46? something else?
Composites are usually e-glass, occasionally carbon fiber, etc.

Thanks guys.
