okay so i'm looking at buying a pump on ebay and im curious as to what im looking for? obviously it needs to be able to pull ~28hg (inches of mercury) but what else am i really looking for? another question is what is the significance of ultimate vacuum (measured in microns), what does this mean? help would greatly be appreciated! :]

Joe Woodworker is the perfect place to check out! Answers all your questions. Not the one you wanting 28 inHg...:-) (I'm perfectly alright with 22 - 23, but that's me...)

And do as "Joewoodworker" says! ;) And you will have a solid set up! I made my "reservoir" a little bit bigger than the examples. For the purpose to evacuate my bag quickly. But that's up to you. Just experiment! Good luck!

beware that the little cheap vac pumps may not be designed to run for hours on end. The use of a reservoir and a pressostat regulator switch can reduce the running of the pump. Joewoodworker has these and there are some other designs over at dream-models com/eco/vacuumpump.html
