Hello to everyone in the ski, snowboard, telemark, etc. business/hobby. I have been skiing and snowboarding for three years now and have been interested in ski and snowboard construction from the first time I went boarding. From everything I can find ski builders is one of the largest, (if not the largest), websites on the interweb dedicated to amateur built eguipment. I am in the process of designing my own ski press and want it to be used for many years to come. In that regard I am wondering what are the longest and widest skis and boards any of you have ever made? Thank you in advance for all of your answers.

I make skis that are typical all mountain skis. I've made 168cm and 172cm in length. My press (8ft long 16in. wide) was designed to make skis from about 155cm to 185cm.

200 cm long
160 mm wide max
There is absolutely no need to build skis larger than that, as far as I can see.

Now, if you wanna go water skiing, or kite-skiing, then maybe a little wider would be nice.

If you want to make XC skis, then you will need quite a bit of extra length as well.

Hi everybody and thanks for all the responses. Just got back from a weekend at Lutsen. I know it's not huge but it's one of the biggest we have here in the mid-west and I am excited to get started on the press but I need to collect the materials first. I was originally planning on making one the size skidesmond talked about(8' x 16") and looking at what everyone else makes I think that should work just fine.

I have a press that's 8'x18" and it will handle just about anything you could throw at it, in most cases I wish it was a bit smaller to save on material. 8'x16" should cover you.
