Wide ski brakes

Post by Alex »

For my new reverse sidecut skis i need to adapt the ski brakes of my rossignol axium binding to 130mm mid section (they are only 90mm wide). Has anybody done this before or a creative idea how to solve the problem?

Thanks for your ideas!

Here they suggest some tircks: http://www.skiforum.it/skiforum/viewtopic.php?t=3546

Usually they keep the breaks with a vice, then they push the steel rods further apart with an hammer or a clamp. Somebody heats up the rod first, to make them softer.

I heard somebody just cut them and soldered an horizontal rod to fit the width of the ski.

You can also cut two slits in the skis...

It is definately possible. I've done it with my salomon bindings. All you need is a vise a screwdriver and a lever.

here's a picutre tutorial:

good luck with it :)

that tutorial is really good - it motivated me to start with the first one. With the Rossi bindings it's even easier! The brake consists of two metal brackets that can be easily removed without tools. Bending them in the vice with a tube takes a bit force but is not too difficult.

With the Bremallows, after I bent the brakes, there was not enough brake sticking out to stop the ski. I ended up using leashes, and they seem to work pretty well.
