could lexan 1/8" or 1/16" work as a cassette or would thin sheetmetal be better to use. i have three 4x8 sheets of i think 1/8" lexan i building a new press it wont be heated so the plastic wont get soft

I used lexan for my vaccum mold surface.....waxed it w/ turtle wax which didnt make the cut...and the lexan broke when popping the raw board out. I bet it would work fine if waxed well with proper mold release. Also any epoxy etc. left behind is a royal pain in the ass to remove. metal is much easier to clean.

find the right sheet metal shop and you can get the metal sheets for really cheap.

you can build a cassette with this and with some edge material and some chunks of steel/aluminum stock to fence in your base/core.

or just leave it open for multiple shapes and use clamps.

how flimsy can the cassettes be, im wonding if polyethylene(puckboard) in the thin sheets would work. epoxy doesn't stick to it and it doesn't crack or break only think i am worried about is it have to much torsional flex but if its if its ziptied tight it might work, i was think of 1/16 might work.

go with steel, no thinner than 18gauge, i dont know what that is in mm

plastic will warp under heat, and the board outline will get dented into it after the first use, then when you use it again if you dont line it perfect to that, then that lilne will translate into your materials. if you're not using heat then its possible it could work, i'd go 3mm +
Also when we used 2mm thick poly to protect the topsheet one time, our cat track bars translated right thru it and left lines across the top.

we currently use 18ga sheets, and are gonna step it up to 16ga
