bamboo breaking down under vibration

well living in North Island New Zealand, we get a fair bit of ice. I have just made my first pair and was talking to someone on the lift about my bamboo and larch cored ski's. He reacons bamboo breaks down rather quick under alot of vibration due to it being so fibrish (if a word). it works great as the side walls and can take a pounding with no damage. has anyone else heard or know of this

doubt that is a reality. Lots of ski manf. use bamboo. Maybe if you vibrated a bamboo stalk on a machine for 20 days straight with no fiberglass reinforcement you may see a mechanical difference.

Never heard of this problem either. I think that the fibers are actually what make bamboo more resilant/stronger.

not to sound like a nerd, but bamboo is actually still used in asia for building structures and holding people up on scaffolds outside of buildings. if it can hold a ton of grown men working all day on a building... it would be my assumption that it would be strong enough for a board. especially reinforced w/ fiberglass.

The question here isn't about strength, but durability and break down over time from vibration. It might be true, but I would imagine it would take a LONG time of a lot of vibration to actually break down the structure of the wood enough to be a concern.
You need to ask a wood/tree/plant expert to know for sure.

yeah true. i know a snowboard company (cant remember specifically which one off the top of my head) makes their cores with a strip of bamboo running down the center to add pop & snap to their boards. Thats what i would try to do.

Hey mate, am trying to source some bamboo for cores at the moment- any chance you could give me any information on suppliers.
